Northwest Regional Data Center Internship Program

Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC) offers a year round internship program in the Mainframe service area. The program gives students great work experience on various challenging projects and tasks with considerable training and supervision. NWRDC will provide a work space and desktop service for each intern.  For each academic term (Fall – Spring – Summer), two intern positions are offered. Upon successful completion of the program, each intern is offered $500 in compensation.

Eligibility

Students must meet the following requirements to qualify for the program:
• Active full time or part time students at Florida State University in IT/MIS related major
• Minimum GPA of 2.0

Position Description:

NWRDC proposes the interns work with multiple full time employees within the NWRDC mainframe group.  Each term one FTE will be assigned the responsibility to mentor the interns with their work/research assignments. Interns each term will continue to develop the work and research performed by the previous interns until the project has been completed.  NWRDC Intern projects may expand several terms.

Work Description:

NWRDC has licensed the Rational Developer for Z (RDZ) software package. This software offers a modern workstation based Application Development Platform for the coding and testing of mainframe applications. Such software could enable our customers to utilize advanced techniques in support of day to day mainframe tasks.

The first task for the interns will be to install two implementations of the software and begin a thorough investigation of its many facets.  Subsequent inters will build on the knowledge of the former interns as the feature and capabilities of this software are explored.

The goal is to show to the customers of the NWRDC how modern workstation techniques can enhance the use of the enduring mainframe.

Dates

• Fall Term: 3rd week – 12th week of FSU fall term. Total 10 weeks with 8 hours each week.
• Spring Term: 3rd week – 13th week of FSU spring term (excludes spring break). Total 10 weeks with 8 hours each week.
• Summer Term: 3rd week – 10th week of FSU 13-week summer term. Total 8 weeks with 10 hours each week.
