COBOL (COmmon Business Oriented Language) for MVS and its runtime partner, Language Environment (LE) for MVS provide the primary high-level language environment at the Northwest Regional Data Center

IBM high-level language compilers, such as COBOL, PL/I, C, and Fortran share the common LE run-time environment. The LE environment enables equivalent run-time characteristics regardless of the compiler used, and positions customers for future offerings which include client/server and MVS Open Edition Operating System compliance.
